Choosing the right format for your audience
Format is a distribution decision. Make it early, and every shot that follows will be built for the screen it lands on.

A film built for YouTube looks cramped on TikTok. A vertical reel looks lost on a cinema screen. Decide where your film will live before you generate a single shot.
Match the platform
- 16:9 for YouTube, websites and presentations.
- 9:16 for TikTok, Reels and Stories.
- 1:1 for feed posts and square ad slots.
Where each format comes from
Auto-Director films are 16:9 widescreen for now. For vertical or square pieces, create your images and clips in Quick Create in that shape, then assemble them in the Editor: an Editor film takes the shape of its first clip (16:9, 9:16, 1:1 or 4:5).
Plan for cut-downs
If you need both a widescreen film and vertical clips, plan the framing so key action stays centred, and make each version in its own shape.
Format is not a finishing detail. It shapes how you frame, edit and deliver — so choose it first.
